Next Steps for NextGen

June 17, 2019

President of the Treasury Board

As part of our ongoing work to explore a future HR and pay solution for the government, I wanted to update you on the important progress we’ve made.

After months of work, our team has reached a key milestone and has named the vendors who will be part of our qualified list. The 3 vendors who have been identified as possible partners in the development of a NextGen solution are - Ceridian, SAP and Workday.

Our next step will be to establish partnerships with one or more of the vendors to develop the best options, including the co-design of pilot projects that will allow for further testing against the real complexity of federal government HR and pay needs.

Over the last few months, we have also been engaging with employees and stakeholders, gathering their feedback, including lessons learned from the past. This has been instrumental in guiding our efforts and informing the work ahead.

Engagement sessions were held from January to April 2019, and included in-person events in Quebec, Alberta, Manitoba, British Columbia, New Brunswick, Nova Scotia, and Ontario, as well as a digital engagement session available to public servants from coast to coast. We managed to reach over 10,000 public servants and, as a result, collect valuable feedback. A huge thank you to all employees who provided their input!

We continue to be committed to engaging with employees and bargaining agents, in an open and transparent manner, in order to ensure the new solution addresses the needs of a modern public service.

I would like to thank the NextGen Team for their continued work towards delivering an innovative HR and Pay system to federal employees across Canada.

As always, all employees wanting to engage with the NextGen Team on social media, can do so through the hashtag #NextGenHRPay. Current and former employees can provide any input by email.

Minister of Digital Government

I am often asked why Canada has a Minister of Digital Government and what that means. My job is to integrate policy and innovative service delivery with IT management, as we work to digitalize and transform our services to Canadians. My role reflects the importance of doing a better job of serving Canadians.
