Security has come a long way since the Government of Canada (GC) implemented its first security requirements in 1948. Back then, security at the office meant locking up your cabinets and the door to your office.

If you’re among those who have been paying attention, you will know that the biggest improvement to Canada’s Access to Information Act in a generation has just received royal assent!

It’s been 1 year since Canada launched the Multi-stakeholder Forum on Open Government. As part of this group since its inception, I have been both participant and observer to the fascinating new terrain that we are exploring.

As part of our commitment to advance Canada’s digital agenda, it is with great pride that we present the Government of Canada’s (GC) first ever Standards on Application Programming Interfaces (APIs). APIs allow systems to communicate and share information with other systems.

Government is continuing its approach to synchronize the timing of the Budget and the Main Estimates to improve the clarity, transparency and accountability of reporting on government spending.

The Government of Canada has made a lot of progress on serving Canadians online, but in some ways we’re just getting started down the road. With recent updates to the Directive on Information Technology Management, we’re adding new signposts and guardrails.
